About

Aria Aradia Nista.  Artist and Goldsmith.

Born in Toscana, Aria began her studies in applied arts and fine arts at Pisa School of Art (now "Liceo Artistico F. Russoli"). There, she trained for five years to master stained-glass windows restoration techniques and study interior design.

She then enrolled in the academic program at Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School and Academy in Florence where she was trained by Giò Carbone and Giovanni Corvaja.

In 2007, she moved to the United Kingdom where she continued her studies in jewellery design and goldsmithing at University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury and Rochester. During those years, Aria took the time to experiment with Japanese urushi lacquer (漆塗) and developed a new technique to successfully apply it to precious metals. She also had the opportunity to train in airbrush painting with artist Jocelyn Sarah Burton in her atelier in  for two years.

After graduating from UCA with a BA (Hons) First Class degree, she continued her studies at Birmingham School of Jewellery under the guidance of Professor Jivan Astfalck.

That is when she decided to set up her first art studio in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and had the opportunity to explore new ways with copper electroforming and electroplating.

Meanwhile, she developed a great interest in Eastern aesthetics and teachings, wabi-sabi in particular.

In 2011, after obtaining her Master of Arts, she moved her art studio to the Harley Gallery and Studios in Nottinghamshire, England.  She worked as artist member of the Harley Foundation for three years before joining the Mendocino Art Center in Northern California where she was selected as Artist In Residence and assistant coordinator for the MAC Jewellery Studios.

An important aspect of Aria’s career has definitely been her special relationship with Japan where she learnt new lacquering skills, zen teachings and Eastern aesthetics.
